Research Laboratory--Contact Information

We are currently working on a new device to aid in tendon repair.  Tendon lacerations are common injuries and result in disability and deformity.  Existing repair techniques are not strong enough to allow immediate active finger movement following tendon repair.

Consequently, over the past ten years, our laboratory has developed an internal tendon anchor which substantially increases the strength of tendon repairs.  This anchor provides the additional strength to allow early movement, thereby preventing stiffness and deformity.  The anchor consists of two segments, one fitting into each side of the tendon laceration, connected by a braided flexible-steel cable.

Patents have been awarded for the tendon anchor.  In addition, laboratory testing has been completed and published, and clinical trials are under way.
