Synovitis of the Wrist

Synovitis (inflammation of the lining) of the wrist can produce swelling and pain on either the palm side of the wrist or the back of the wrist.  This may result in pain with movement of the fingers, as well as swelling and tenderness.
More commonly, synovitis of the wrist will manifest itself as carpal tunnel syndrome at the wrist with compression of the median nerve as it travels through the tunnel known as the carpal tunnel at the wrist.

Information about the related carpal tunnel syndrome can be found at our Cumulative Trauma (Repetitive-Stress Injuries) and Median Nerve at the Wrist (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) pages.
