Synovitis in the Fingers and Thumb

Inflammation of the synovial lining of the tendon may extend all the way into the finger.  This can produce substantial pain, discomfort, and swelling, especially with movement of the finger.
Conservative measures as described for triggering of the finger and synovitis in the palm are usually effective, especially an alteration of one's activities.  However, surgical synovectomy is occasionally necessary.
